Transit Planning Data Analyst

Depending on the qualifications of the candidate selected, this position will be filled at either the Analyst I or II level.

As Transit's Planning Data Analyst, you will collect, maintain, manage, analyze, and interpret data for transit planning from a wide variety of internal and external sources; provide accurate and timely responses for queries regarding public transit; and provide research and assist with various planning projects and studies.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Gather ridership and performance data for various transit services
  • Retrieve data from Automatic Passenger Counter, Automatic Vehicle Location systems, GFI fare boxes, and other sources
  • Develop existing data collection instruments and methodologies for improved efficiency or accuracy
  • Ensure data integrity; research and correct causes of inconsistencies
  • Perform database management and organization of public transit data
  • Provide statistical information and report analysis of public transit data
  • Respond to data requests promptly and accurately for internal queries and those of local, state, and federal agencies
  • Develop, maintain, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual operational reports for internal, local, state, and federal agencies such as the Federal Transit Administration and the National Transit Database
  • Ensure requirements are met and documents are submitted for continued eligibility for grant funding, including Title VI regulations
  • Provide current detailed Geographic Information Systems data maps for a variety of purposes including Trapeze software base mapping, bus stop inventory, display-quality route maps, and demographic representations
  • Develop and present complex data in an accessible and understandable manner
  • Represent the Transit Services Division at board and committee meetings when necessary
  • Support special projects and research transit related topics as needed
Examples of Job Competencies

Knowledge of:
  • Methods and techniques of data collection, research, and report preparation
  • Principles and practices of transportation or public transit planning activities
  • Transit-specific software systems and applications such as Trapeze
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to:
  • Participate in various organizational studies and analyses
  • Prepare clear and concise reports

Minimum Qualifications:
Analyst I: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning, public administration, business administration, or related field.

Analyst II: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning, public administration, business administration, or related field.

Two years of full-time increasingly responsible administrative and analytical experience including experience specific to public transit or related transportation industries.
